What Is The Best Gutter Guard Available?

At Bear Property Cleaning, we've gone through many different types of guards over the years. Some key discoveries that we came across are: gutter guards that are drilled in, made from aluminum or stainless steel, and have 1-2mm perforations perform best. Plastic guards, vinyl guards, snap-on guards, don't perform as well. Guards that utilize a screen or mesh tend to cause icicles, damning, and buildup in the winter - and during heavy rain water simply pours over the edge.

How Often Should Gutter Guards Be Cleaned

If you ask a company that question and they answer never... run. They don't have your best interest at heart. Gutter guards still need to be cleaned, we recommend every 4-5 seasons. The tops need to be blown off, and areas around downspouts need to be flushed.

Do You Recommend Gutter Guards?

Gutter guards are an excellent preventative measure. They are not a final solution. We've been in business for years and have had to clean every type of guard on the market. Unfortunately, some companies suggest otherwise - promising customers a tall tale that once guards are installed, they never have to be cleaned again. They mitigate the need to have gutters cleaned as often, but they should never be considered a one stop shop to end gutter cleaning for good.

What Is A Common Problem You Come Across?

A common issue we see all around London, Ontario and the surrounding area when we clean see gutter guards is people leaving them alone. This thinking can lead to all the problems that one would experience with no guards whatsoever. Gutters eventually get full, and downspouts clog up. Water damage occurs, and a homeowner is often stumped as to why it happened because surely the "lifetime guarantee of clean gutters" works! At the minimum, we recommend an inspection to be done by a company to see how the guards are holding up after a few years.
